AIBO (Artificial Intelligence roBOt, homonymous with “pal” in Japanese) was one of several types of robotic pets designed and manufactured by Sony; there have been several different models since their introduction in 1999. AIBO was discontinued in 2006.

Skypee is a robotic toy made by Erector/Meccano. It contains a webcam, microphone and speakers. Controlled by computer locally or over the internet, the owner can move the robot to various locations within range of the local router, take pictures and video, listen to surroundings and make sounds through the microphone or through various built-in recordings.

Roboraptor is a robotic toy invented by Mark Tilden and distributed by Wow Wee Toys International. It is the successor to the RoboSapien robot and uses motion technology based on realistic biomechanics that give it fluid and natural movements.

BIG TRAK / bigtrak was the programmable electric vehicle created by Milton Bradley in 1979. It was a six-wheeled tank with a front-mounted blue photon beam headlamp, and a keypad on top.

Al-Jazari’s work described fountains and musical automata, in which the flow of water alternated from one large tank to another at hourly or half-hourly intervals. This operation was achieved through his innovative use of hydraulic switching.
