France successfully tested its first military UAV in Afghanistan
Posted on February 22nd, 2009 No commentsFrance successfully tested its first military UAV called SIDM (Système Intérimaire de Drone MALE) in Afghanistan – military’s favorite playground these days. This highly autonomous all-weather surveillance UAV is based on IAI Eagle-1 platform and can stay in the air for up to 24(!) hours at the altitudes 5-8km and recon in 1000km range.

Sonny
Posted on February 21st, 2009 No commentsSonny is an NS-5 (Nestor Class-Five) robot from the film I, Robot. His voice and movement are provided by Alan Tudyk. Sonny was programmed by Dr. Alfred Lanning to break the first of the Three Laws of Robotics.

IAI Heron
Posted on February 21st, 2009 No commentsThe Heron or Machatz-1 is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle developed by the Malat (UAV) division of Israel Aerospace Industries. It is capable of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) operations of up to 52 hours’ duration at up to 35,000 feet. It has demonstrated 52 hours of continuous flight, but the effective operational maximal flight duration is less, due to payload and flight profile.
